landscapes, patios, balconies, green green green

it must be the warm weather that has gotten me hooked on outdoor spaces. here is a round-up of ones that i find inspiring! i seem to like the ones that are either very contained or kind of wild and all over the place... go figure.

probably my favorite one of the bunch. such a great combination of materials. the large stone squares, the dark wood with horizontal stripes that continue on the vertical plane, the hand-sized rocks, all the green, and the skinny tree. gorgeous.

yasuo moriyama's prefab compound

ryue nishizawa designed this minimalist steel prefab compound in tokyo for a variety of designers, with every room as its own building. if only something like this would hold up in new england, i'd be all for it. there is just something about the "hallways" being outdoors, intertwining indoor and outdoor spaces, that i love.

in doing more research about ryue nishizawa i found that he works collaboratively with kazuyo sejima under the name SANAA. here is an interview with the two about their work and lives, as well as some pictures. there is also a book on SANAA houses available.

and here are some other pictures from the office of ryue nishizawa. i love the open rooms, low furniture, and mosh posh of plants. so jealous. if only i could keep plants alive!

the awesomeness that is amanda hughen

i've recently been thinking about designing my website/portfolio and patterns for it, so naturally amanda hughen's body of work came to mind. because who doesn't love repetitive patterns??

"Each work consists of layers of geometric shapes, both hand-drawn and taken from architectural templates. Through layers of drawing and painting, an organic, chaotic event emerges. I combine acrylic paint, pen, pencil, and ink, working on both sides of translucent drafting film, allowing the gradual build-up of forms and lines to create layers of depth and movement."

check out the rest of her work here!
